FEATURED MINING COMPANY

PERU SOUTH AMERICA

Antamina: is located in the Andes, North Central Peru; this is in the Western Cordillera range of the Andes at an altitude of 4,300 m, approximately 270 km north of Lima.

Antamina is owned by Compañía Minera Antamina S.A., in which we hold a 33.75% interest. The remaining interests are held by Xstrata (33.75 %), Teck (22.5 %) and Mitsubishi (10 per cent). Antamina is the operator of the mine.

The Antamina deposit is a large copper skarn with zinc, silver, lead, molybdenum and bismuth mineralisation.

It has a southwest to northeast strike length of more than 2,500 m and a width of up to 1,000 m. The deposit sits at the bottom of a U-shaped glacial valley surrounded by limestone ridges.

Total reserves at Antamina are: 745 million tons, based on a recent reserves study (2008).

The ore is mined by open pit methods, and batch treated by ore type through a conventional grinding and flotation mill with a nominal design capacity of 88,000 tons a day.

A 302 km pipeline transports the copper and zinc concentrates to the port of Huarmey (300 km north of Lima).

AUSTRALIA

Cannington: is located in north west Queensland. Cannington (BHP Billiton 100%) is a fly-in fly-out mining and processing operation that has grown to become the world’s largest and lowest cost producer of silver and lead.

The Cannington mine site operation consists of an underground mine accompanied by a metallurgical processing facility.

Both open-stope and bench mining methods are used at Cannington, while grinding, sequential flotation and leaching techniques are used to produce high-grade marketable lead and zinc concentrates that contain high silver content.

We structure our service offerings to meet your needs

Introduction

As a niche business solution services provider, we have complete flexibility in terms of structuring our services to our clients. Below we set out some high level information on how we approach client engagement.

To engage our service please contact Sarel Blaauw

Scoping out the work

The first step is to scope out the work, be it a simple, once-off question or a major project. This can initially be done through a phone call but for major work, we always seek to meet face to face to fully discuss and evaluate the work scope. For those clients abroad, we establish the needs and determine the scope in conjunction with the client through an interactive electronic mail business / projects exchange process.

Key steps are:

Defining the problem / solution sought
Defining the deliverable – written / verbal / presentation
Defining the timeline for completion and intermediate milestones.

We will then assess whether we have the appropriate skills and expertise and discuss the level of collaboration with the client’s personnel, if collaboration is required. Collaboration is a very important aspect of our engagement strategy, as in many instances shareholders require us to work with operations personnel.

Engagement types

Our service agreements are structured to suit the clients’ requested services:

Once-off reimbursable hour arrangements
Once-off fixed fee arrangements
Long-term reimbursable hour arrangements
Long-term service contracts on a retainer arrangement.

For many clients, our standard Tacmin Madini agreement is fit for purpose, but in other cases our clients provide their own agreements for our review.

Data management

Work is carried out at Tacmin Madini’s head office in Johannesburg where adequate facilities, hardware and equipment are housed for the smooth execution of work to be performed. Completed work or data required by our clients can be accessed and/or downloaded from Tacmin Madini’s off-site server which is manned and protected by www.hetzner.co.za. Data exchange is done through and controlled by www.sharefile.com, allowing us to exchange data files of any size securely, safely and effectively across the globe.

Deliverables to the client include reports detailing objectives, methodology, findings, limitations and recommendations as well as all electronic media and data generated during the assignment. The said work is delivered in both hard copies and digital format and can also be downloaded from the Tacmin Madini server.

All hard copy information (data, drawings, specifications, client remarks) is available to the authorised personnel under strict supervision and is secured at all times.  At the completion of the project, all such information can either be returned to the clients or destroyed by us on their behalf under intimation.
