Equipment performance

Amongst others, mining equipment performance and related aspects, are one of Tacmin’s core specialities. Tacmin’s capabilities pertaining to equipment performance covers a comprehensive range including but not limited to equipment selection, recommendations, contractor trade-off, equipment and maintenance optimisation, detailed cost breakdowns and several aspects pertaining to autonomous mining.

Contractor performance

Tacmin’s principal shareholder is a former director of an open-pit contract mining company and as a result, Tacmin has become sought after in the provision of contract mining related support and advice to numerous mining companies. From procurement to mining cost estimates, contractor management, drafting of agreements, certification to dispute resolutions, our expertise has gained decades of exposure to a wide variety of open-pit contract mining applications.

Housekeeping and safety

Housekeeping of haul roads, pit floors, dumps and stockpile maintenance, best practise mining, as well as safety and health in mine operations, contribute significantly to acceptable mining and production performance. Combined with Tacmin’s capability in mine engineering designs, enable us to control housekeeping from engineering throughout the operations thereby providing our expertise with the ability to optimise production through housekeeping and safety.

Mechanical availabilities

Tacmin’s equipment maintenance component utilisation study analysis are consistent with OEM’s Life Cycle Costing (LCC’s) and based on capable machine productions, simulated for mine site conditions, geology and mine engineering. Since the aforesaid benchmark studies are aligned with the Client’s production schedules, component utilisation and maintenance benchmarks can be analysed for any short, medium and long-term mine plan.

Turnaround situation assessment

Once our customers have recognised the need for operational improvement, we do not spend months on end to assess the situation, instead, we immediately get stuck into short-term survivability. During this initial stage of turnaround, we work closely with the owner’s team to actively engage with MRM departments to determine the shortcomings and where applicable support the appropriate personnel to re-engineer and execute mineability assessments for implementation.

Based upon 21 years of experience gained during operations improvement / turnaround assignments, our operations turn-around team experienced that longer-term viability assessment is generally not required since the vast majority of longer-term viability is subject to securing the short-term future of the business through stabilising the distressed mining stage under consideration.
