The Groote Eylandt Mining Company Pty Ltd (GEMCO) : is located on Australia’s northern coastline. Tropical Groote Eylandt provides a truly unique environment for GEMCO and its employees to live and operate.

GEMCO mines high-grade manganese ore from extensive reserves and processes products to exacting quality standards. Strategically close to world markets, our products leave our port bound for a variety of domestic and international destinations.

The high quality of our products, our customer focus, our team of people, and our commitment to zero harm has made us part of one of the largest manganese operations in the world.

GEMCO operates under special mining leases granted by the Commonwealth Government of Australia and the traditional Aboriginal land owners. GEMCO employs approximately 250 people plus a large number of permanent and temporary contractors.

The Mamatwan Mine: lies at the southern extremity of the Kalahari manganese field. It was developed initially to provide ore with a high manganese to iron ratio, for the local ferroalloy industry. The ore was introduced to the export market in 1964.
